You could leave him with a friend, it would be okay... I saw someone with a really cool idea in terms of potty training. She put a bell by the back door that the dog could reach.. and everytime before she let the puppy out she would ring the bell with his paw, so as he got older when he wanted to go to thebathroom he could ring the bell and be let out.
