What is it about Jon Stewart that people like so much?

I watch him and Colbert all the time. However, I don't get how Stewart is so popular that he is now the new king of late night (thank god its no longer Leno). It seems like Colbert is way more hilarious. Stewarts jokes are hit or miss.
